Power Minister urges provinces to settle overdue electricity bills

Islamabad, Federal Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Laghari has written to the chief ministers of all four provinces, urging them to settle outstanding electricity bills that have accumulated over time.
In a statement issued by the Power Division on Thursday, it was highlighted that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the energy minister has already initiated reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of electricity companies and ensuring consumers receive power at affordable rates.
The reforms focus on boosting financial resources, reducing power theft, and ensuring the collection of overdue bills from consumers, according to the statement.
Sardar Awais emphasised that unpaid bills were impacting the ongoing reforms in the energy sector. He pointed out that several provincial departments were failing to settle their electricity dues, creating a financial strain on power companies and hindering the progress of essential energy sector reforms.
The power minister has requested the chief ministers to ensure the immediate payment of these overdue bills in order to support the stability and growth of the energy sector.
