PPL Faces Ransomware Cyberattack, Launches Probe to Assess Impact

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has confirmed a ransomware cyberattack on its IT infrastructure. The attackers sent a ransom note demanding payment. In response, PPL acted quickly to contain the breach and activate its internal cybersecurity protocols. The attack briefly disrupted some IT systems, but the company reported no major damage.

The company stated that no sensitive or critical data had been compromised. However, as a precaution, parts of the system were shut down temporarily. These actions were taken to prevent further access and protect company information.

Law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies have been notified about the cyberattack. A formal investigation is underway to uncover details and identify those responsible. Intelligence teams are now working alongside PPL’s internal experts.

No communication has yet taken place between PPL and the hackers. The company is taking a firm stance by not engaging unless legally advised. This approach is in line with standard industry practices in such situations.

PPL is now conducting a deep forensic analysis to determine the origin and full extent of the attack. This analysis is critical for identifying future vulnerabilities and preventing similar breaches.
