PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan accuses government of lack of seriousness in talks

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to engage in meaningful discussions, particularly regarding the formation of a commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26. Speaking to the media, Gohar emphasized that the PTI entered negotiations with good intentions, but the government’s lack of commitment led to the breakdown of talks.
“We didn’t engage in talks just for pleasantries or photo sessions,” Gohar remarked, underlining the seriousness with which PTI approached the dialogue process. However, despite initial promises, the government failed to act on the critical matter of forming a commission to investigate the incidents that had significantly impacted the political landscape of Pakistan.
The PTI leader also highlighted an ongoing case related to a protest outside the Supreme Court, where terrorism charges were added in the FIR. Gohar revealed that many lawyers had been implicated in the case, with some now presenting themselves in court. He noted that during the proceedings, the judge hinted at the possibility of the case being dissolved in the next hearing.
During his statement, Gohar stressed that PTI had continued negotiations despite facing significant challenges, including the convictions of party leader Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. “We engaged in the dialogue process despite the injustices faced by our leadership,” Gohar said, adding that PTI had presented two key demands during the discussions but had received no response from the government within the seven-day window initially agreed upon.
The main point of contention remains the formation of a commission, with PTI pressing for finalization of its terms of reference, timeline, and composition. However, Gohar accused the government of inaction, which he described as a clear sign of its lack of seriousness in addressing the issue.
“Given this lack of commitment, there is no point in continuing discussions merely for formalities,” Gohar stated, announcing that Imran Khan had decided to halt further negotiations with the government.
Despite ending the current round of talks, Gohar reiterated that PTI remains open to dialogue with all political parties in an effort to move forward constructively. However, he emphasized that the government’s attitude had left them with no choice but to discontinue the negotiations.
