Punjab Announces Ramadan Price Relief for Ghee and Oil

The Punjab government has announced discounts on cooking oil and ghee for the holy month of Ramadan. Special Assistant Salma Butt directed the initiative to provide relief to consumers. DG Punjab Food Authority Asim Javed met with ghee mill owners to implement the price reductions. Discounts of Rs. 10 to Rs. 16 per kilogram will be applied to all ghee and oil packets. Authorities emphasized that affordable, high-quality products will be available throughout Ramadan.
Salma Butt stated that the government is committed to ensuring access to high-quality ghee and cooking oil. She added that if palm oil prices decrease further, the Punjab Food Authority will coordinate with producers to provide immediate consumer relief. Officials stressed that the initiative aims to reduce household expenditure during the festive month. Market monitoring will continue to ensure compliance with the price relief measures. Consumers are expected to benefit from both affordability and quality assurance.
DG Asim Javed highlighted the need to introduce modern systems in ghee production and distribution. He noted that cost-effective methods are being implemented to reduce trans fatty acids. Testing and quality control processes are being updated to meet international standards. Authorities aim to ensure that all products supplied during Ramadan are safe and of high quality. Javed emphasized that these measures will protect both consumers and the industry’s reputation.

Asjad Arif, Chairman of the Ghee Mills Association, praised the Punjab Food Authority for guiding the industry on quality improvements. He said the association is committed to eliminating adulteration in ghee production. Arif confirmed that ghee mills will adhere to international standard operating procedures (SOPs). He added that sufficient supplies of high-quality ghee will be available in the market during Ramadan. Collaboration between authorities and industry is expected to ensure smooth implementation of price relief.
Officials emphasized that these steps will benefit households and strengthen consumer confidence in the market. The government urged producers to comply fully with quality and pricing guidelines. Public awareness campaigns will inform consumers about available discounts. Authorities also plan to monitor ghee and oil supplies regularly.
