Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Pledges Full Support for Widows on International Widows Day

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has emphasised that widowed women deserve more than just sympathy — they deserve rightful support, empowerment, and dignity.
In her message on International Widows Day, Maryam Nawaz highlighted that Islam grants widows complete rights, respect, and social status, adding that society must not abandon them.
She drew attention to the plight of women widowed by ongoing conflicts in regions like Kashmir, Gaza, and now Iran, stressing that their pain calls for more than words—it demands practical and sustained support.
The Chief Minister shared that under the Punjab government’s “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” (My Roof, My Home) housing program, widows and single mothers are being given special priority to ensure they live with respect and security. She also noted that their children are being prioritised in the “Honhaar Scholarship” scheme, so their education continues without obstacles.
Maryam Nawaz confirmed that the Women Protection Authority and the Department of Social Welfare have been directed to fully assist widows and ensure they receive all available government support.
She concluded with a firm commitment: “No widow in Punjab should ever feel alone—the state will always stand with her at every step.”
