Punjab Government Launches E-Taxi Scheme 2025

The Punjab government is set to roll out its ambitious E-Taxi Scheme 2025, a forward-looking initiative designed to promote eco-friendly transportation while creating job opportunities, especially for young people across the province.
In its first phase, the scheme will distribute 1,100 electric taxis—completely interest-free—to eligible applicants. Notably, 30 vehicles have been reserved exclusively for women drivers, ensuring greater inclusivity and safety for female commuters.
These electric vehicles (EVs) will be assembled locally by Dewan Motors, contributing to the growth of Pakistan’s green auto industry. To ensure ease of operation, a comprehensive charging infrastructure will be established across major cities and highways in Punjab.
The scheme also prioritises women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from rural and underserved areas. Officials say this focus aims to bridge the gap in access to sustainable mobility and economic opportunities.
“We are not just distributing cars—we are empowering citizens, protecting the environment, and building a modern transport future for Punjab,” said a spokesperson from the provincial transport department.
The E-Taxi Scheme is part of the broader Punjab Green Mobility Plan, aligning with global goals to reduce carbon emissions and encourage clean energy solutions in public and private transportation.
Applications for the scheme will be accepted online and through district offices. More details, including eligibility criteria and vehicle specifications, are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
