LAHORE – The Punjab government has launched a major plan to restore Lahore’s historic heritage. The initiative focuses on reviving old names of buildings and streets across the city.
The Lahore Heritage Areas Revival meeting was chaired by Mian Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Officials presented reports on restoration projects and reviewed visual progress of ongoing work.
During the meeting, authorities decided to restore old names of roads and streets. Government colleges upgraded to universities will also regain their original names by removing the “University” suffix.

Authorities will convert the route from Shah Alam Gate to Rang Mahal Chowk into a pedestrian pathway. They will also restore eight historic gates and important sites, including Maryam Zamani Mosque.
