Digital traffic challan system

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the “One App” digital traffic challan system in Lahore. The system introduces evidence-based traffic enforcement for the first time in Pakistan. Officials said it will enhance transparency and accountability in issuing challans. The app also stores video recordings of violations that remain verifiable for future reference.

Traffic authorities explained that the system allows on-the-spot verification of identity cards, driving licences, and stolen vehicles. Vehicle ownership, fitness certificates, and route permits can also be checked immediately. The app will support authorities in monitoring encroachments and environmental violations. It integrates multiple functions to improve overall traffic management in Punjab.

Under the new system, e-challans will be issued digitally with QR codes provided to citizens. This ensures people can access details of traffic violations instantly. The integrated system also allows checking the status of FIRs and criminal records. Officials stressed that all records are securely stored and accessible through the app.

In the second phase, authorities plan to introduce a point-based system for traffic violations. Certain violations will also result in FIR registration. DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir said the initiative will ensure fair and impartial enforcement. He added that digital evidence will reduce disputes and improve compliance.

Officials hope the “One App” system will modernize traffic management and strengthen law enforcement. Citizens are encouraged to use the app to check their violations. Authorities will continue upgrading features to improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability. The project marks a major step toward digitizing public services in Punjab.
