Qatari and Turkish Officials Join Efforts for Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Turkey’s Intelligence Chief, Ibrahim Kalin, will join talks in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on Wednesday. These meetings are focused on working toward a Gaza ceasefire agreement.

According to Qatar’s Foreign Ministry official, Majed Al-Ansari, the Qatari Prime Minister will meet with other mediators including U.S. special envoy Steve Wietkoff and Jared Kushner. These discussions are seen as important for peace efforts in the region.

Al-Ansari said the main goal of the meetings is to move forward with a plan to stop the fighting in Gaza and secure the release of hostages. He added that Qatar’s participation shows that mediating countries are serious about ending the conflict.

Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin is also expected to take part in the same talks in Sharm El-Sheikh. Turkey has shown interest in helping resolve the crisis through peaceful negotiation and cooperation with other nations.

Earlier, a Hamas official told Al Jazeera that one round of talks has already taken place. Hamas has demanded that the release of hostages must be linked to the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces. These discussions are all part of the ongoing efforts working toward a Gaza ceasefire agreement.
