Ramazan brings soaring prices of fruits and vegetables

With the arrival of Ramazan, the prices of fruits and vegetables have surged dramatically as profiteers openly disregard official rate lists across markets.
Essential food items are being sold at inflated prices, making it difficult for the common man to afford basic necessities. Despite the official price of onions being Rs. 80 per kg, they are being sold for Rs. 100 per kg. Similarly, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, and ginger have witnessed sharp price hikes, with ginger reaching Rs. 450 per kg against the official rate of Rs. 370 per kg.
Fruit prices have also increased significantly. Apples are being sold for Rs. 300-400 per kg, bananas range from Rs. 220 to Rs. 350 per dozen, and guavas cost Rs. 250 per kg. Meanwhile, citrus fruits like kinnow and Malta are priced between Rs. 200-400 per dozen, and melons cost Rs. 150-250 per kg.
Additionally, broiler chicken remains at Rs. 595 per kg, while farm eggs are being sold at Rs. 286 per dozen.
Consumers have expressed their frustration over price hikes and the lack of government intervention to control profiteering during Ramazan. Citizens are urging authorities to take immediate action to regulate prices and ensure relief for the public during the holy month.
