Remembering Nasir Kazmi—The poet who redefined Urdu Ghazal!

Today marks the death anniversary of legendary Urdu poet Nasir Kazmi, known as the founder of modern Urdu ghazal.
Born in Ambala, India, Kazmi started his education at Government College Lahore but had to discontinue due to the unrest during the partition. He worked in the Welfare and Agriculture departments before joining Radio Pakistan, where he wrote famous literary sketches on classical poets like Mir Taqi Mir, Nazir, and Wali.
His poetry collections, including Barg-e-Nay, Dewaan, and Pehli Barish, left a lasting impact on Urdu literature. Besides poetry, Kazmi also wrote prose and the drama series ‘Sur Ki Chhaya’.
