Resolution Submitted in Punjab Assembly Seeking Ban on TikTok

Lahore: Opposition member of the Punjab Assembly, Farrukh Javed Moon, has submitted a resolution calling for a ban on the popular short-video platform TikTok.

The resolution states that TikTok is promoting unethical, indecent, and harmful content for underage users, which is contributing to moral decline in society. It highlights that the app’s live chat feature is being misused by young boys and girls for inappropriate conversations, while even minors are posting objectionable videos in order to earn money.

It is worth mentioning that in the past, different provincial assemblies and courts have also raised concerns about TikTok, with temporary bans imposed several times. Courts directed the platform to ensure stricter controls to block offensive material.

Although TikTok has since introduced tougher policies and removed a large number of objectionable videos, the resolution claims that inappropriate content still continues to spread, posing a serious threat to the younger generation.

The resolution demands that the Punjab Assembly request the federal government to impose a complete ban on TikTok across Pakistan.
