SBP Governor projects economic growth above 3% for FY2025

Islamabad ,The Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Jameel Ahmad, announced on Thursday that Pakistan’s economic growth is expected to exceed 3% in the current fiscal year, signaling positive prospects for the nation’s recovery despite ongoing challenges.
In a press conference,r SBP Governor Ahmad emphasized the importance of maintaining stable and gradual economic growth to prevent future balance of payments issues. He outlined that while Pakistan is on track for growth, careful management of the economy will be necessary to avoid any setbacks.
“We are optimistic that Pakistan’s economic growth will surpass 3% in FY2025,” said Ahmad. “It is essential to ensure this growth is stable and sustainable to address long-term economic challenges.”
Governor Ahmad also provided a key update on inflation, revealing that SBP’s inflation target for the year is set between 5 to 7 percent. He expressed confidence that if inflation remains under control, the overall economic environment would improve, benefiting other sectors of the economy.
“We hope that Pakistan’s current account will remain in surplus through December,” he added, underscoring the government’s efforts to balance foreign trade and stabilize the economy.
Additionally, Governor Ahmad addressed Pakistan’s foreign debt, stating that it remains at a manageable level. The country’s actual foreign debt is currently reported at $100.8 billion, a figure that the SBP head described as being within the nation’s capacity to handle.
