SC Orders Doctors, Phone calls Access for Imran Khan in Jail

Barrister Salman Safdar, acting as Friend of the Court, submitted a report to the Supreme Court on Imran Khan’s jail conditions. The report highlighted the PTI founder’s poor living environment and limited access to medical care. It also noted he has not met his lawyers for the past five months. Authorities described concerns about extreme temperatures, pests, and insufficient facilities in his cell.
According to the report, Khan receives only a small heater in winter, while his cell becomes extremely hot in summer. He struggles to sleep due to mosquitoes and insects. Limited refrigeration has caused two or three instances of food poisoning. His TV is non-functional, adding to discomfort and isolation. The lack of family and lawyer visits has affected his well-being and legal rights.
The report highlighted serious medical concerns. Khan’s eyes were watery, and blood clots caused severe discomfort. He has not had a dental check-up in two years. Routine blood tests appropriate for his age have also been neglected. Safdar urged the court to ensure timely medical examinations to safeguard his health.

Safdar recommended several measures to improve Khan’s conditions. He asked the Supreme Court to guarantee uninterrupted family visits and pest control in the cell. He also suggested providing basic necessities such as a refrigerator. The report emphasized restoring access to lawyers to uphold Khan’s right to a fair trial.
In response, the Supreme Court ordered immediate medical care and phone access for Khan. Authorities were instructed to address pest issues and provide essential facilities. The decision aims to protect both the PTI founder’s health and legal rights. Observers said the move reflects the court’s commitment to humane treatment of prisoners.
