Lahore, December 15, 2024 – The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lahore has announced that all public and private schools and colleges in the city will remain closed tomorrow, December 16th, in observance of significant national events.

The closure is in remembrance of two crucial moments in Pakistan’s history: the fall of Dhaka in 1971 and the tragic APS Peshawar attack in 2014, which resulted in the loss of many innocent lives. The DC Lahore confirmed that a formal notification regarding the school closures has been issued.

While schools and colleges will be closed, all universities in Lahore will remain open as usual, the DC clarified.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that December 16th is a day of deep reflection for the nation. He noted the profound impact of the Peshawar school tragedy, describing the loss of young lives as a wound that the country will never forget. The sacrifices of the martyrs of Army Public School (APS) have united the nation and strengthened its resolve against terrorism.

The DC also stressed the importance of December 16th in Pakistan’s history, marking the painful loss of East Pakistan following the events of 1971. The tragic incident, caused by Indian aggression, remains a significant chapter in Pakistan’s narrative.

“On this day, we remember the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation and vow that their sacrifices will never be in vain. As a nation, we stand stronger and more united, and we are confident that Pakistan will soon be a peaceful and prosperous country,” the DC added.
