Shujaabad Settlements in Multan Submerged as Floodwaters Hit

Multan’s Shujaabad area has been severely affected by floodwaters, with dozens of settlements submerged. The rising waters have forced locals to seek safety on the flood embankments.
The Chenab River, after causing destruction in Jalalpur Pirwala, shifted toward Shujaabad. Late last night, a breach about 80 feet wide appeared near Moza Dhondo on the river embankment, letting water flow into nearby settlements and toward the city.
During efforts to repair the embankment, three workers were swept away by the floodwaters. Authorities are working to reinforce the Dhondo embankment and the last protective canal, Bakhtu Wah, to prevent water from reaching the city.
The sudden flooding has caused panic among residents. Settlements including Moza Dhondo, Gardizpur, Nawan Shehar, Khanpur Qaziyan, Chhajo Shah Wala, Mochi Pura, Ponta, Moza Suman, Moza Khairpur, Rukan Hatti, and Venice Marha have been submerged.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Federal Minister Rana Qasim Noon visited the site to oversee relief efforts. Work continues to strengthen flood barriers to protect Shujaabad, with the last canal, Bakhtu Wah, now serving as the city’s main line of defense, just two kilometers away.
