KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah drew a comparison between Karachi’s leadership and New York’s newly elected mayor. Speaking at the Future Summit in Karachi, Shah said that the “change that started from Karachi has now reached New York.” He highlighted the election of 34-year-old Muslim mayor Zohran Mamdani in New York and recalled how Karachi had also elected a young mayor, Murtaza Wahab, a few years ago.
Shah’s remarks underscored the global recognition of Karachi’s progressive leadership. He celebrated the election of Mamdani, calling it part of a broader wave of change, and suggested it reflected Karachi’s influence on the world stage. The Sindh CM emphasized that both cities were embracing youth-led leadership to address challenges and drive innovation.
Shah also highlighted several key development projects led by his government. These included the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood-Affected Communities, the Karachi Safe City Project, and a variety of green initiatives. The chief minister described these projects as part of a pragmatic, forward-thinking approach to governance focused on people’s welfare.
Additionally, the Sindh government has introduced reforms to simplify business processes and strengthen public-private partnerships. Shah stated that these initiatives aim to align infrastructure development with sustainability and equity, ensuring long-term benefits for the people of Sindh.
Meanwhile, in a significant political shift in the United States, Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York was seen as a boost for the Democratic Party. His win came amid fierce opposition from Republicans and conservative media, and was viewed as a significant victory for young, progressive leaders. The Democrats also secured two key governorships, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
