Sindh government to take strict action against misuse of official vehicles

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced strict measures to tackle the misuse of official vehicles, including legal action against individuals who have failed to return them or are using them for unauthorized purposes.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, which convened the Sindh Cabinet’s subcommittee on austerity. The meeting focused on reviewing the use of government resources, particularly official vehicles, and ensuring greater accountability.
It was decided that cases would be registered against those who have not returned official vehicles or who are using them without proper authorization. In addition to this, the committee proposed auctioning off abandoned government vehicles as a means to generate additional revenue, which would be allocated to priority projects.
The committee also discussed various recommendations aimed at reducing government expenses and promoting transparency in the allocation and use of official vehicles. Saeed Ghani and Ali Hassan Zardari, provincial ministers, were among the attendees.
Sharjeel Memon emphasised the importance of curbing unnecessary use of official vehicles to help reduce mounting expenses and streamline the provincial government’s spending. “It is essential to ensure that official vehicles are used only for official purposes and in compliance with established guidelines,” he said.
The committee directed that clear guidelines be formulated to regulate the use of official vehicles, ensuring better management and transparency in the process. The proposed auction process will be closely monitored to maintain accountability and prevent any misuse.
