ISLAMABAD: The government has announced the formation of an eight-member special committee tasked with reviewing the allowances for government employees. The committee will assess both new proposals for allowances and evaluate the existing ones, following approval from the prime minister.

The committee will be chaired by Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, according to a notification issued by the government. The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema, will also serve as a member of the committee.

Other members of the committee include the State Minister for Finance and Revenue, Ali Pervaiz Malik, the Secretary of Finance, as well as the Secretaries of the Establishment Division, Defence, and Interior Division.

This committee’s formation comes after a decision earlier in June by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet to establish a pension fund for government employees. The newly formed committee is expected to play a crucial role in shaping future policies regarding allowances and compensation for government workers.
