Bajaur suicide bombing

Authorities have identified the suicide bomber behind the February 16, 2026 Bajaur attack as Ahmad, also known as Qari Abdullah Abu Zar. He was a resident of Balkh province in Afghanistan. Ahmad reportedly served in the Taliban’s Special Forces before joining terrorist operations. The attack killed 11 security personnel and two civilians. Officials say this highlights growing Afghan involvement in terrorist activities in Pakistan.

The incident follows previous attacks linked to Afghan nationals. On February 6, 2026, a suicide bomber in Tarlai, Islamabad, had also received training in Afghanistan. Similarly, terrorist groups behind the November 2025 attacks in Islamabad and Peshawar had Afghan connections. The October 2025 attack on Islamabad’s judicial complex and the FC Headquarters assault in Peshawar involved Afghan perpetrators. These patterns indicate a consistent cross-border threat.

Experts warn that Afghan Taliban support allows terrorist organizations to find safe havens within Afghanistan. Captured militants, including Nematullah from South Waziristan, also hailed from Kandahar province. Analysts note that Afghanistan has become a base for planning attacks inside Pakistan. Security forces emphasize the need for stronger border monitoring and intelligence cooperation. They say curbing cross-border terrorism is a top priority.

According to sources, over 70% of recent terrorism-related incidents in Pakistan involve Afghan nationals. This trend raises concerns about regional security. Officials urge international collaboration to address militant networks. They emphasize tracking movement and training of terrorists across the Afghan border. Authorities continue investigations into links between Afghan groups and local networks.

The Bajaur attack demonstrates the ongoing threat posed by cross-border terrorism. Security agencies are strengthening intelligence and counterterrorism operations. Analysts stress the importance of diplomatic and military measures to prevent future attacks. Pakistani authorities vow to hold perpetrators accountable and protect civilians. The government is also reviewing strategies to reduce Afghan-backed militancy within the country.
