ISLAMABAD – July 23, 2025: In a significant step to boost regional connectivity and infrastructure, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has officially approved the upgrade of Sukkur and Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) airports to international status, along with several other major aviation developments.

Official sources state that Sukkur Airport will be expanded and its runway lengthened to meet international standards. At the same time, Dera Ismail Khan Airport is scheduled for a complete overhaul to become a modern, fully equipped facility.

The PAA Board of Directors also approved the upgrade and expansion of Rahim Yar Khan Airport, including infrastructure renovation and runway extension, aimed at handling larger aircraft and increasing flight frequency.

Furthermore, a feasibility study is currently in progress for building a new airport in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The federal government will make the final decision after reviewing the study’s results.
