Teacher Dies After School Shooting in Southern Thailand

A female teacher died in southern Thailand after a gunman opened fire at her school in Hat Yai district.

The attacker, a 17-year-old, used a firearm stolen from a police officer to shoot the teacher and a student.

The teacher, Sasiphat Sinsamosorn, also served as the school director. She was taken to the ICU but died early Thursday.

Authorities detained the suspect, who has a sister at the school. He has a history of substance abuse and psychiatric treatment.

Gun violence is a recurring issue in Thailand. Officials recalled a 2002 attack where 36 people were killed at a nursery.
