At least three people were killed and four others injured in a remote-controlled explosion near Rustom Bazaar in Wana, Lower South Waziristan on Monday, police said.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Tahir, the blast specifically targeted a vehicle passing through the busy market area. Among those killed was also the head of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe, officials confirmed, marking a significant loss for the local tribal leadership.

Police stated that the explosive device was detonated remotely as the vehicle approached the vicinity of the bazaar, causing widespread panic among residents and traders in the densely populated commercial area. The intensity of the blast damaged nearby structures and vehicles, while eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos immediately after the explosion.

Rescue teams and law enforcement personnel quickly reached the site and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. The condition of some of the wounded is reported to be critical, according to hospital sources.

Following the incident, security forces and police cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the nature of the attack and identify those responsible. Bomb disposal squads were also deployed to inspect the site for any additional explosives or threats.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the perpetrators, but initial assessments suggest that the targeted nature of the attack indicates possible militant involvement in the region, which has seen periodic violence in the past.

Security in and around Wana has been tightened, and patrols have been increased to prevent any further incidents. Officials have vowed to bring those responsible to justice as investigations continue.

The attack has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in parts of South Waziristan, where local communities have frequently been affected by militant and targeted violence.
