United States President Donald Trump departed China on Friday after a high-profile summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping that focused on trade cooperation, regional security, Taiwan, and the ongoing Iran conflict.

The two-day state visit, Trump’s first trip to China since 2017, featured ceremonial receptions, official banquets, and closed-door meetings aimed at improving ties between the world’s two largest economies. Trump described the visit as “incredible” and said both sides had reached several important understandings.

During their final meeting at Beijing’s Zhongnanhai leadership compound, Trump said the summit had produced “fantastic trade deals” beneficial to both countries. Discussions reportedly included agreements related to agriculture, aviation, artificial intelligence, and energy cooperation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping described the visit as a “milestone” in bilateral relations and emphasised the need for strategic stability between Washington and Beijing. However, China also issued a firm warning regarding Taiwan, stressing that mishandling the issue could damage relations between the two countries.

The Iran conflict also emerged as a major topic during the summit. China stated that the war “should never have happened” and called for an immediate ceasefire and reopening of regional shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said Xi expressed willingness to help ease tensions and supported keeping global trade routes open.

The White House stated that both leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor. Trump also claimed Xi assured him that China would not provide military equipment to Iran.

Despite positive diplomatic messaging, analysts noted that the summit delivered limited concrete breakthroughs on major geopolitical disputes. Observers said markets reacted cautiously as investors awaited stronger commitments on trade and global security issues.

The visit comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and growing global concerns over energy supplies, trade stability, and US-China strategic competition.
