Trump Has Limited Options on Strait of Hormuz Crisis, Warns Expert

Former White House energy adviser Bob McNally has warned that there is no effective long-term policy solution to a possible shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz. He said such a situation could seriously impact global oil supply and increase economic pressure worldwide, highlighting that Strait of Hormuz closure policy solution remains a major challenge for decision-makers.

In an interview, Bob McNally explained that measures like increased military monitoring, using strategic oil reserves, or reducing gas taxes are only temporary steps. According to him, these actions may help in the short term but cannot fully resolve the crisis.

He further stated that most of the available options for former President Donald Trump are either symbolic or ineffective. McNally added that some decisions could even create negative consequences instead of solving the problem.

McNally emphasized that the only real solution is to fully restore oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. However, he noted that even if the United States announces an immediate end to conflict, there is no guarantee that Iran would reopen the waterway.

He concluded by saying that if Iran continues to show its ability to target ships in the region, it would be enough to disrupt global shipping. This ongoing threat makes it clear that a reliable Strait of Hormuz closure policy solution is still out of reach and remains a serious concern for the global economy.
