United States President Donald Trump said he secured “fantastic trade deals” with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during their high-profile summit in Beijing, marking a significant step toward stabilising ties between the world’s two largest economies.

The two leaders met on Friday for the final round of discussions following a two-day state visit focused on trade, technology, regional security and the ongoing Middle East crisis. Trump described the talks as highly productive and said both sides had agreed on several measures aimed at boosting economic cooperation.

Speaking after the meeting, Trump said the United States and China had reached agreements involving agriculture, aviation and energy supplies. He revealed that China had agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft, while also expressing interest in increasing imports of US soybeans and oil.

Xi described the summit as a “milestone visit” and stressed the importance of maintaining “constructive strategic stability” between Washington and Beijing. He also warned that mishandling the Taiwan issue could seriously damage bilateral relations.

Trade tensions between the two countries had escalated last year after both imposed tariffs exceeding 100 percent on each other’s goods. However, a temporary trade truce agreed during their previous meeting in October helped ease tensions and reopen negotiations.

The summit also touched on the Iran conflict and the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route. Trump said Xi offered support for efforts aimed at reopening the strait and reducing regional tensions.

Despite the positive tone, major differences remain over issues such as Taiwan, artificial intelligence and US export restrictions on advanced semiconductor technology to China. Analysts believe the summit may help prevent further deterioration in relations, but long-term stability will depend on continued dialogue and implementation of agreements reached during the visit.
