UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner Resigns Over Property Tax Issue

LONDON — UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner resigned on Friday after an independent inquiry.
The investigation found that she failed to meet the ethical standards expected of government ministers regarding a recent home purchase.
On Wednesday, Rayner admitted she did not pay the proper tax when buying an apartment in Hove, on England’s south coast.
She referred herself to the independent adviser on ministerial standards, Laurie Magnus, who submitted his report to Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday.
In the UK, property purchases carry levies, with higher charges for expensive or secondary homes. Reports indicate Rayner saved £40,000 by not paying the correct stamp duty.
