The U.S. government announced sanctions against two major Russian oil companies — Rosneft and Lukoil. These companies are accused of supporting the Russian government financially in its war efforts against Ukraine.

President Donald Trump, speaking at the Oval Office alongside NATO’s Secretary General, said, “Today is a big day. We have placed sanctions on two of Russia’s biggest oil companies, and this shows what we plan to do next.” He added that these measures are meant to push Putin toward peace talks.

Trump further stated that the Russia-Ukraine war began during President Biden’s term and has continued for nearly four years, causing thousands of deaths. He said he believes both sides now want peace and that he plans to discuss this issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping soon.
