Venezuelan Opposition Leader María Corina Machado Wins 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has officially announced the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, naming María Corina Machado, a prominent Venezuelan opposition leader, as this year’s laureate.
According to the committee, Machado has been honored for her “unwavering peaceful resistance” and “tireless defense of democracy and human rights” in Venezuela.
Known as a symbol of democratic struggle and civic courage, Machado has long been an outspoken critic of authoritarian rule in her country. Her efforts to promote political reform and uphold fundamental freedoms have made her a key figure in Latin America’s pro-democracy movements.
The Nobel Committee praised her leadership during Venezuela’s political and humanitarian crisis, emphasizing that her commitment to non-violence has inspired millions across the globe.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump, who had been nominated by some of his supporters for his role in Middle East peace initiatives, did not receive the award this year. The committee confirmed his nomination was reviewed but ultimately chose Machado for her “outstanding contribution to peace through democratic resilience.”
