Will never revive Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan: India

India’s Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that India will not reinstate the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.

Shah stated that river waters previously allowed to flow into Pakistan will now be redirected for Indian use, particularly to support water needs in Rajasthan.

The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960, had guaranteed Pakistan’s access to rivers originating in India, which are vital for almost 80% of Pakistan’s agriculture.

India suspended its participation in the treaty following a deadly attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, which it blamed on Pakistan. Pakistan has denied any involvement in the incident.
