World’s longest total Solar Eclipse to occur on August 2, 2027

Author Avatar Web Desk | 6 days ago

On August 2, 2027, millions around the globe will witness a rare celestial event — the longest total solar eclipse of the century, lasting 6 minutes and 23 seconds.

The eclipse will be visible across parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia, with its shadow stretching approximately 258 kilometres wide. The eclipse path will begin in southern Spain, pass over North Africa, the Middle East, and end in the Indian Ocean. In Egypt’s city of Luxor, total darkness is expected to last more than six minutes.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, blocking sunlight from reaching the Earth. Such events are only visible in limited regions and for a short time.

The next total eclipse of a similar scale won’t be seen for another 120 years.
