74th Anniversary of Liaquat Ali

KARACHI – October 16, 2025: The 74th death anniversary of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan, is being observed today with solemn tributes and remembrance ceremonies.

A Pakistan Air Force contingent presented a ceremonial salute, and Qur’an recitation was held at his resting place within the Mazar-e-Quaid compound. Family members and political leaders visited the grave to pay their respects.

Liaquat Ali Khan’s grandson, Kamal Liaquat, was present to offer prayers, while Sindh Assembly opposition leader Ali Khursheedi laid a floral wreath and recited Fateha.

Born on October 1, 1885, in Karnal (then British India), Liaquat Ali Khan was educated at Aligarh Muslim University and later at Oxford University in the UK. He played a key role alongside Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the movement for the creation of Pakistan.

He was tragically assassinated on October 16, 1951, during a public address at Company Bagh, Rawalpindi — a location now known as Liaquat Bagh in his memory.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in a message on the occasion, paid tribute to the former Prime Minister, acknowledging his contributions to Pakistan’s early development. He praised Liaquat Ali Khan’s integrity, dedication to unity, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals, calling them a lasting inspiration for the nation.

Speaking to the media in Sargodha, where he had come for a hearing, Khan said that no space remained for journalists to freely voice their opinions and that no media representatives were allowed to publish or talk in public.

He blamed the government for the nation’s inflation while asserting that the Sindh government would consent to water distribution as part of the federal government’s suggested agenda.
