Sindh excise department’s new era: Innovations in tax, registration, and anti-drug efforts

Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, shared significant updates on various department reforms and efforts against drug trafficking, today in the Sindh assembly. Highlighting recent improvements, he stated that Excise operations are moving to a cashless system, allowing residents to register their vehicles and pay taxes from home, eliminating the need for agents. “Smart machines are now available for hassle-free tax payments, making processes more efficient,” Memon noted. October marked a milestone with revenue collection exceeding targets, indicating the department’s progress.
To curb unregistered vehicles, Memon emphasized strict measures preventing any unregistered cars from leaving showrooms or ports, securing Sindh’s streets from potential theft or misuse. The auction proceeds from license plates are now being directed to flood-affected areas, reflecting the department’s commitment to social support. He proudly shared that “our innovative ideas have even drawn attention from Punjab.”
Addressing anti-drug measures, Memon revealed that Sindh has developed its anti-narcotics legislation, unlike Punjab. Surprise checks in schools and universities are planned, with rehabilitation centres already established to support those struggling with addiction. Memon reported a recent high-profile arrest at Karachi Railway Station, seizing a significant drug supplier. He also emphasized a plea to all communities for support and shared information to help combat drug-related issues effectively.
“Working together, we can make Sindh safer and more efficient,” he stated, noting that the case for critical infrastructure funds is pending Supreme Court approval, with hopes of securing 120 billion rupees to rebuild crucial roads.
