HYDERABAD: The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) raided food outlets in Hyderabad and found serious hygiene violations. They sealed an ice cream and limca shop and fined the owner Rs 0.1 million. Deputy Director Operations Dr. Asad Jahangir said the raids came after many public complaints. He added that surprise checks are now routine at restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, hotels, and street stalls. The goal is to force all food outlets to meet safety standards.

At a Latifabad Unit No. 7 shop, inspectors found expired ice cream and flavorings stored in the freezer. They also found that the ice used for limca was made through unsafe methods. As a result, the SFA sealed the shop and imposed the fine. These actions show the authority is serious about punishing offenders. Other violations will also be dealt with swiftly.

Meanwhile, the SFA inspected kitchens in a food court of a mall on Autobahn Road and issued heavy fines for hygiene breaches. The teams found multiple outlets violating cleanliness regulations and using substandard materials. They emphasized that no restaurant or eatery is exempt from these standards. The public’s health is at stake, and SFA will act now. The message to all businesses is clear: comply or face consequences.

Earlier, in March 2025, SFA raided a well-known five-star hotel chain in Karachi, finding serious violations. Inspectors discovered 25 kilograms of expired meat, outdated buttercream, and spoiled food items. Kitchen and washing areas failed basic hygiene tests and were in poor condition. Authorities filed a case in the South Civil Judge’s court over these findings. The action demonstrated that even top hotels are under scrutiny.

Through these operations, SFA aims to enforce strict food safety across Sindh. The authority has warned that violations will no longer be tolerated. Legal measures and fines will be applied to defy food laws. Meanwhile, the public is advised to report suspicious food outlets immediately. In coming days, further inspections and prosecutions are expected to continue.
