Financial Irregularities Exposed In Faisalabad Waste Management Scandal

A major financial scandal has surfaced in Faisalabad involving alleged irregularities in the solid waste management sector. Authorities accused a private waste management company and several officials of serious misconduct. Moreover, the Anti-Corruption Department has launched a formal investigation and registered a criminal case in the matter.

According to anti-corruption officials, action has been initiated against the private contractor and 12 officers of the Faisalabad Waste Management Company. Investigators claimed that digital records were manipulated and fraudulent activities were carried out over an extended period. Consequently, the national treasury allegedly suffered losses exceeding 154 million Pakistani rupees.

Official documents revealed that records showed 2,317 garbage containers, while only 1,717 were physically found in the field. Similarly, authorities discovered fake attendance records linked to ghost sanitary workers. In addition, investigators believe these fraudulent practices allowed the misuse of public funds intended for sanitation services.

The inquiry also found that cheaper loader rickshaws were allegedly used instead of expensive mini dumpers mentioned in official contracts. Reports stated that key performance indicator data related to cleaning operations was also manipulated. Furthermore, machinery, staff numbers, and operational activities were reportedly exaggerated to secure higher payments.

Investigators claimed that changes were made to the digital portal to obtain extra payments unlawfully. Serious irregularities were also identified in urban and rural sanitation contracts across the district. As a result, anti-corruption authorities have expanded their review of financial and operational records connected to the project.

Officials stated that further arrests and legal action may follow once the investigation is completed. Experts believe such financial misconduct can severely damage the quality of public services and weaken trust in local government institutions.
