Punjab reviews national unity measures under action plan

An important meeting of the Information Steering Committee under the National Action Plan was held in Punjab under the chairpersonship of Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari to discuss measures aimed at promoting national unity, patriotism and countering hate-based content.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the secretary information, additional secretary home, deputy secretary finance and director law, where several decisions were taken regarding educational, cultural and digital initiatives.
Participants agreed to include themes related to patriotism and nationalism in educational curricula as well as morning assemblies in schools. The committee also decided to incorporate content highlighting national spirit and “Marka-e-Haq” into academic material to strengthen awareness among students about national unity and civic responsibility.
During the session, concern was expressed over the limited participation of private educational institutions in activities promoting national cohesion compared to government institutions. Officials stressed that private schools should also organise programmes and events focused on unity, patriotism and social harmony.
The committee further approved plans to produce films centred on national unity and historical themes using government funding. It was also decided that Alhamra Arts Council would produce a drama based on the life and sacrifice of Shaheed Liaquat.
Officials also reviewed measures to monitor and curb hate speech and inflammatory content on social media platforms, particularly during the upcoming month of Muharram. Authorities announced that a joint cell involving the Information and Home Departments would be established to identify harmful online content and ensure timely dissemination of verified information.
Addressing the meeting, Azma Bukhari stated that any form of provocation or hate speech during Muharram would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against those involved. She added that public awareness campaigns would also be launched to promote harmony and national unity across Punjab.
