Mohsin Naqvi, Sri Lankan Envoy Review Team Security

Federal Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to discuss security arrangements. The meeting followed the recent terrorist attack in Islamabad. Team managers, PCB COO Sameer Ahmed, Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner, and IG Police also attended. Officials briefed the participants on the comprehensive security plan for the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team.

The Sri Lankan High Commissioner expressed deep sorrow over the Islamabad attack and offered condolences to the victims’ families. He praised Pakistan’s solidarity and efforts to ensure safety. Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the visiting players are state guests. He assured that foolproof security arrangements have been implemented for the team’s protection.

The High Commissioner expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s security measures. He appreciated the government’s efforts to make the guests feel safe and welcomed. Officials said all protocols were strictly enforced to guarantee smooth operations and prevent any security lapses. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination during the team’s stay.

Earlier, Pakistan edged out Sri Lanka by six runs in a thrilling 50-over match. Pakistan scored 299-5, while Sri Lanka fell short with 293-9. Salman Ali Agha and Hussain Talat starred with the bat, lifting Pakistan with a 138-run fifth-wicket partnership. Salman scored an unbeaten 105 from 87 balls, hitting nine fours, while Talat contributed 62 runs with six boundaries and a six.

For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga took three wickets, while Asitha Fernando and Maheesh Theekshana claimed one each. The match highlighted both teams’ fighting spirit. Officials said strong security ensured players could focus fully on the game without any disruption.

Sri Lanka Cricket has officially announced the ODI and T20 squad for Pakistan tour. The Sri Lankan team will play a three-match ODI series against Pakistan and a tri-nation T20 series involving Pakistan and Zimbabwe. According to the board, the team will depart from Colombo to Pakistan on November 8 to prepare for the upcoming matches.

Charith Asalanka will lead Sri Lanka’s white-ball teams, while Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Chamindu Mendis, Kamal Mishra, and Janith Liyanage have been included in both squads. In addition, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Asitha Fernando, and Ishan Malinga are part of both the ODI and T20 squads.
