SUKKUR: Sultan Shah, a notorious dacoit, and his son Hubdar Ali Shah were killed in a police encounter on Wednesday. Police said the suspects attempted to flee after committing a robbery in Rohri. Constable Fazal Bhutto was injured during the exchange of fire. Authorities confirmed the police retaliated, resulting in the deaths of both criminals. A child, Faizan Sheikh, injured during the robbery, is now out of danger.

The Deputy Inspector General of Sukkur Range, Captain (Retired) Faisal Abdullah Chachar, praised the Sukkur police team. He congratulated SSP Azhar Mughal for leading the operation successfully. The DIG ordered the best medical care for the injured constable. Police were commended for showing bravery during the high-risk encounter. The operation highlights law enforcement’s efforts to curb violent crime in the region.

A video of Sultan Shah surfaced on social media shortly before his death. In it, he expressed fears of being killed in a fake police encounter. He also raised concerns over his personal safety. Authorities said the video has sparked public debate about criminal encounters. Meanwhile, police maintained that the operation was carried out following standard procedures.

Police records show Sultan Shah was wanted in 48 criminal cases across Sindh. His charges included kidnapping, murder, robbery, extortion, and drug trafficking. The government had placed a Rs2 million bounty on his head. Officials had also considered increasing it to Rs5 million. His criminal activities posed a significant threat to local communities over the years.

Sultan Shah had surrendered in 2008 in front of then Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza. He remained active in local politics until 2013 and even contested elections. After 2013, he allegedly returned to crime, engaging in extortion, targeted killings, and robberies. Authorities said his elimination marks a major success for law enforcement in Sukkur.
