Fines for Littering

An important meeting on the Clean Punjab Initiative was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The session focused on enhancing the province’s sanitation system and introducing stricter measures to maintain cleanliness.

During the briefing, officials informed the Chief Minister that the public response toward the Clean Punjab project has been overwhelmingly positive. Vehicle monitoring is being carried out through an advanced vehicle tracking management system, while container operations are being supervised via live monitoring. Additionally, salary and payment systems have been digitalized to ensure transparency.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the progress of the initiative, stating that developing such a vast sanitation system from scratch is nothing short of a milestone. She added that both urban and rural areas needed such a structured system long ago, and improvements will continue over time.

A major decision taken during the meeting was the imposition of fines on individuals who litter on streets, commercial zones, or public areas. Authorities stressed that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility and lawbreakers will face strict action.

To modernize the sanitation fleet, the government announced that environment-friendly electric vehicles will now be used for waste collection across Punjab. These vehicles will help reduce pollution and support green initiatives.

The meeting also approved plans to generate energy from solid waste. The Chief Minister directed concerned departments to submit a comprehensive waste-to-value plan by mid-January.

According to the Punjab government, the Clean Punjab program will not only improve sanitation but also introduce sustainable practices, enhance urban management, and promote the use of modern technology throughout the province.
