Weather alert: rain, snowfall, fog across Pakistan

A new spell of westerly winds will enter Pakistan this weekend, the Meteorological Department warned.As a result, weather conditions will change in several regions.Officials said the system will mainly affect western and upper areas.Meanwhile, cold temperatures and dense fog will continue in the plains.Authorities urged citizens to remain cautious during travel.

According to meteorologists, light rain and snowfall are expected in upper regions.These areas include upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.In addition, mountainous regions may receive snowfall.Some western districts could also see light rain.However, Islamabad may only experience cloud cover.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weather will remain cold and partly cloudy.Rain is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan.Moreover, light snowfall may occur on surrounding mountains.Dense fog will increase in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, and nearby districts.Consequently, visibility may remain poor at night and early morning.

Punjab will continue to face cold, fog, and smog conditions.Light rain is expected in Murree and Galiat areas.Meanwhile, Lahore and several central districts may face dense smog.Sindh will remain dry and cold, with fog in northern districts.Balochistan will stay cold, with snowfall expected in northern areas.

In Karachi, daytime weather will remain dry and mild.However, nights and early mornings will feel colder.Meteorologists warned that low rainfall may impact rain-fed wheat crops.They expressed hope for more weather systems in January.Overall, temperatures are expected to drop further nationwide.

The snowfall in northern Pakistan has made the weather much colder, especially in the upper regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Fresh snow has covered mountain peaks and tourist areas, attracting visitors but also causing travel difficulties due to slippery roads and blocked routes.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, snowfall has started again on the surrounding mountains. Continuous snow is falling on Babusar, Nanga Parbat, and Batogah peaks. More than a dozen vehicles were trapped in the snow, and rescue teams had to assist travelers.
