Ukrainian drone attack

A Ukrainian drone attack damaged two vessels and two piers on the Black Sea coast in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The attack also sparked a fire in the nearby village of Volna. Authorities reported the incident on Monday, confirming the scale of the damage. The area is strategically important for Russia’s energy exports and military logistics.

All crew members on the ships at the Volna terminal were safely evacuated, the Krasnodar operational headquarters said. Authorities used the Telegram app to provide updates on the situation. The evacuation ensured no casualties despite significant structural damage to the vessels. Local emergency teams worked quickly to control the unfolding situation.

The fire spread to around 1,500 square metres, and by 0200 GMT, it was still raging. Firefighters struggled to contain the blaze due to strong winds and complex terrain. Authorities warned that the fire could further damage port infrastructure if not controlled soon. Emergency response units were fully deployed to limit destruction.

Ukraine has frequently targeted the Krasnodar region using drones in recent months. Attacks have hit refineries, fuel depots, ports, and airfields. Analysts say the region is highly vulnerable due to its proximity to southern Ukraine. The attacks demonstrate Ukraine’s capability to strike deep into Russian-controlled territories.

The village of Volna is located near the Crimean Bridge over the Kerch Strait. This bridge links mainland Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014. It serves as a critical route for Russian military and supply operations. The attack highlights ongoing tensions and the strategic importance of the Black Sea region.

Russian forces have announced the capture of Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub in eastern Ukraine, along with Vovchansk in Kharkiv. Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov confirmed the reports, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the development. Moscow hailed the victory as a significant achievement for Russian forces.

Pokrovsk, located in the Donetsk region, has been a target of heavy bombardment over the past two years. The city, once home to around 60,000 people, has been severely damaged by artillery, drones, and airstrikes. Russia’s control of the city would offer a strategic advantage due to its importance as a transportation and logistics center.
