Russia Downs 33 Ukrainian Drones

The Russian Defence Ministry reported on Friday that 33 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed over several regions, including Crimea and the Black Sea. The drones were shot down overnight in five Russian regions. Russian authorities confirmed that the attacks forced the temporary suspension of operations at at least eight airports.

In the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, located in southern Russia’s Krasnodar region, two people were injured in the drone assault. As a result, local authorities suspended classes at nearby schools and kindergartens to ensure public safety. The drone attack caused significant disruption in the area.

The Russian aviation watchdog confirmed the airport closures, though operations have since resumed. Additionally, the local governor of Rostov reported that seven drones had been downed in his region. One of the drones damaged an electricity pylon, cutting power to over 200 homes.

The strike on the electricity infrastructure led to power outages, leaving residents in the dark. Meanwhile, Russian officials have called for heightened vigilance and security measures, especially in the aftermath of this large-scale drone assault.

Authorities continue to investigate the scale and impact of these drone attacks as tensions between Russia and Ukraine persist. Both nations have repeatedly targeted each other’s infrastructure and military assets, escalating the ongoing conflict.
