Russian forces have announced the capture of Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub in eastern Ukraine, along with Vovchansk in Kharkiv. Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov confirmed the reports, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the development. Moscow hailed the victory as a significant achievement for Russian forces.
Pokrovsk, located in the Donetsk region, has been a target of heavy bombardment over the past two years. The city, once home to around 60,000 people, has been severely damaged by artillery, drones, and airstrikes. Russia’s control of the city would offer a strategic advantage due to its importance as a transportation and logistics center.
Footage circulated by Moscow shows Russian soldiers raising the flag in Pokrovsk. Putin praised the troops for their efforts, thanking them for the success in the area. The Russian leader referred to the city by its Russian name, Krasnoarmeysk, while congratulating the military on their work.
Ukraine has not confirmed Russia’s claims of capturing Pokrovsk. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meeting with US and European leaders to discuss the ongoing war and possible diplomatic solutions. Zelenskyy’s top priority remains preventing Moscow from securing territorial gains that would legitimize the occupation of Ukrainian land.
The capture of Pokrovsk could shift the balance of power in eastern Ukraine, providing Russia with a major logistical advantage. As the conflict continues, the international community remains concerned about the ongoing humanitarian and geopolitical ramifications. The situation in Ukraine remains fluid, with both sides preparing for further confrontations.
