GILGIT: As many as 30 out of 33 newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly took oath on Monday during a formal session held in the assembly chamber.

The oath was administered by Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Nazir Ahmed Advocate, who presided over the proceedings. The newly sworn-in members represent a diverse mix of political parties, reflecting the current political composition of the region’s legislative body.

According to official details, 13 members from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and 9 members from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) took oath. In addition, 6 members from the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), one member from Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), and several independent lawmakers also joined the session and formally assumed office. Among them were also PTI-backed independent candidates who secured seats in the recent elections.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, the Speaker adjourned the assembly session until 3pm the same day. The resumed session is expected to focus on key constitutional steps, including the election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Leader of the House, which will determine the future leadership structure of the assembly.

Officials confirmed that the remaining three elected members could not take oath due to pending notifications related to their constituencies. According to reports, the notification for three constituencies in Gilgit, one in Skardu, and two in Diamer has been withheld following court orders, delaying their formal induction into the assembly.

The political process in Gilgit-Baltistan is now moving towards the formation of a new government, with coalition discussions and leadership nominations expected to intensify in the coming days. Political observers say the next phase of elections within the assembly will be crucial in shaping governance in the region.

Authorities have assured that the remaining legal and procedural matters will be resolved in accordance with court directives and election laws.
