The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed volatile trading on the first working day of the week, with fluctuations recorded in the benchmark KSE-100 index during intraday activity.

At one point during the trading session, the index was seen declining by 949 points, bringing it down to 179,871 points. However, the market also showed signs of recovery as the index touched an intraday high of 180,507 points before stabilising within a narrow range.

According to market data, the index had closed at 178,922 points at the end of the previous trading week, indicating that overall sentiment remains sensitive to short-term economic and political developments.

Analysts noted that the volatility reflects cautious investor behaviour, as market participants continue to assess macroeconomic indicators, including inflation trends, currency movement, and monetary policy expectations. Despite the early decline, selective buying in key sectors helped the index recover part of its losses during the session.

Meanwhile, the foreign exchange market also showed marginal movement. The US dollar in the interbank market depreciated by one paisa during early trading, reaching 278.24 rupees. On the previous day, the dollar had closed at 278.25 rupees.

Financial experts say that such minor fluctuations in the currency market indicate relative stability in the exchange rate, although external pressures such as import demand and global oil prices continue to influence overall trends.

Market observers suggest that investor sentiment in the coming days will depend on upcoming economic data releases, corporate earnings announcements, and any policy signals from the central bank.

Overall, the trading session reflected a mixed but cautiously optimistic trend, with both equities and currency markets showing limited volatility amid ongoing economic adjustments.
