LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to complete ongoing development projects on schedule, prioritizing clean drinking water initiatives. She chaired a special meeting to review progress on the Punjab Development Programme, Lahore Development Programme, Model Villages, Parks and Horticulture Authority projects, clean water schemes, and rural road works. The chief minister emphasized efficiency, quality, and timely delivery in all ongoing projects to benefit citizens.

Addressing public complaints, Maryam Nawaz acknowledged difficulties caused by road digging and promised measures to reduce disruption. She noted issues regarding water filtration plants and instructed authorities to install them promptly in affected areas. She also ordered construction and rehabilitation of water bottling plants and filtration facilities to be completed by June 30. Under the initiative, residents in Dera Ghazi Khan, Khushab, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur will receive clean drinking water at their homes.

Officials reported that 1,529 road rehabilitation projects will construct or repair 4,031 kilometres of roads across Punjab. The Model Villages project has started in 224 villages, while 469 villages will receive water supply, children’s parks, and street lights. Maryam Nawaz also directed the establishment of a live dashboard to monitor all development schemes effectively and ensure accountability.

The chief minister ordered the completion of Phase I of the Lahore Development Project and set a deadline of April 30 for Phase II. Development work in seven cities is expected to finish by April. Additionally, a resource generation plan has been requested to ensure the financial autonomy of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA).

The meeting was informed that the second instalment of the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” scheme is being released, with 700 houses being constructed daily. Projects worth Rs204 billion across 52 cities are set to begin by February 22. Maryam Nawaz stressed that the government will continue to monitor progress closely and ensure citizens benefit from the development programmes.
