Sindh reports rise in mpox cases with nine deaths

Sindh has reported a concerning rise in suspected cases of Mpox, with a total of 122 cases recorded so far, according to figures released by the provincial health department.
Officials confirmed that nine people have died due to the virus, while at least 25 cases have been laboratory-confirmed. Health authorities described the situation as serious, prompting urgent containment measures across affected areas.
In the past 24 hours, two new cases were reported—one in Karachi and another in Khairpur. Khairpur remains the most affected district with 18 confirmed cases, followed by Karachi with four and Sukkur with three cases.
In response to the surge, the Sindh Health Department has established isolation wards in major hospitals across the province to manage and contain infections. Specialised surveillance units have also been activated to ensure safe transportation and testing of medical samples.

Authorities have intensified contact tracing efforts, focusing on healthcare workers and individuals who may have come into close contact with infected patients. Hospitals have been directed to strictly implement sterilisation protocols and maintain rigorous infection prevention standards.
Health officials said efforts are underway to identify active cases in affected regions and prevent further spread. Public awareness campaigns are also being expanded, urging citizens to follow precautionary measures and report symptoms promptly.
The department has advised people to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms associated with mpox. Special caution has been recommended for vulnerable groups, particularly newborns and infants.
Officials stressed that early detection, isolation, and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to controlling the outbreak and preventing further fatalities.
