Government announces subsidy programme for small farmers

The federal government of Pakistan has announced a new subsidy programme aimed at supporting small farmers affected by rising global energy costs and production pressures.
According to an official statement, farmers owning less than 12 acres of land will be eligible for the relief package. The initiative is designed to reduce financial strain on small-scale agricultural producers and improve productivity during the ongoing farming season.
Under the programme, eligible farmers can register through the Pakistan Asaan Khidmat mobile application by submitting their personal details and relevant land documentation. Authorities said the process has been digitised to ensure transparency and ease of access.
A senior official stated that the government will provide a subsidy of Rs1,500 per acre to qualifying farmers. The financial assistance will be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts or through mobile wallet services such as JazzCash and Easypaisa.
Officials added that the subsidy scheme includes three separate packages to provide flexible support depending on farmers’ needs. The government has also urged farmers to complete registration promptly to avoid delays in receiving assistance.
The announcement follows earlier relief measures introduced for motorcyclists, small farmers, and transporters as part of broader efforts to manage the impact of inflation and energy price fluctuations.
Provincial governments have also introduced complementary initiatives. In Punjab, officials reported that more than one million farmers have been issued Kissan Cards, facilitating digital access to agricultural support and financial services.
Meanwhile, the government of Sindh recently announced a Rs3 billion relief package for small farmers to offset rising diesel costs during the wheat harvesting season.
Officials say these combined efforts aim to strengthen the agricultural sector, ensure food security, and provide targeted financial relief to vulnerable farming communities across the country.
