Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) in Jamshoro has launched its first fleet of electric buses, marking a significant step toward modern and eco-friendly campus transportation.

The buses were formally inaugurated on Thursday, with Vice Chancellor Ikram Din Ujjan describing the initiative as a historic milestone for the university. Speaking at the ceremony, he emphasized that the project goes beyond providing transport and represents a broader commitment to student welfare and environmental sustainability.

“This is not just a transport facility but a major relief for our students and a move toward a modern, green campus,” he said. The vice chancellor highlighted that the university aims to offer safe, efficient, and free transportation within the campus to help students focus more on their academic pursuits.

He added that the administration has been consistently working on initiatives to improve student facilities, and the introduction of electric buses is part of these ongoing efforts. The service is expected to significantly reduce the financial burden on students who previously had to rely on paid transport for commuting within the campus.

In addition to easing costs, the electric buses are also expected to contribute to a cleaner environment by reducing carbon emissions. Improved traffic management within the campus is another anticipated benefit, as the organized transport system will help regulate movement and reduce congestion.

Students who attended the launch welcomed the initiative and praised the university’s efforts. Many expressed hope that the service would eliminate intra-campus travel expenses and make daily commuting more convenient.

The launch of electric buses reflects LUMHS’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and creating a more student-friendly academic environment.
