Lebanon reports Israeli ceasefire violations in south

Lebanese Army has reported multiple “acts of aggression” by Israel, alleging violations of a recently implemented ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Lebanese Army said the ceasefire, which took effect at midnight local time, was breached within hours. It urged residents in southern areas to exercise caution and avoid returning to their villages due to ongoing security risks.
The army cited several incidents, including intermittent shelling in southern Lebanese villages, which it described as clear violations of the ceasefire terms. The statement warned that the situation remained unstable and could pose serious risks to civilians attempting to return home.
There was no immediate official response from the Israeli military. However, earlier statements from Israeli officials indicated that their forces remained deployed in the region, citing continued militant activity by Hezbollah as a justification for their presence.
According to humanitarian assessments, more than a million people have been displaced in Lebanon since the escalation of conflict earlier this year, adding to an already severe humanitarian crisis. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has previously warned about the growing impact on civilians, particularly in southern regions.
The ceasefire announcement had initially triggered celebrations in parts of Beirut, with residents expressing relief after months of escalating violence. However, renewed reports of shelling have quickly dampened hopes for lasting calm.
The situation comes amid broader regional tensions involving Israel, Hezbollah, and wider geopolitical developments linked to the ongoing conflict. International actors have repeatedly called for restraint and adherence to ceasefire agreements to prevent further escalation.
The Lebanese Army reiterated its call for calm while continuing to monitor developments along the southern border.
